Scott Giles Named President and Chief Executive Officer

Round Rock, TX – Trellis Company (formerly TG), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation and leading provider of loan support and financial education services for the U.S. Government and commercial businesses, today announced that the Board of Directors has selected Scott D. Giles as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 22, 2018. Giles takes over from interim President and CEO Renard Johnson, who stepped down from the Trellis Board to steer the company in June of 2017. Johnson will return to the Board upon Giles arrival.

“After a thorough and deliberate selection process, the Board is delighted to have Scott lead Trellis as we navigate through the evolving and expanding landscape of supporting long-time customers such as the Department of Education, as well as other government agencies and businesses in the private sector,” said Board Chair Yvonne Batts. “We are highly confident that Scott is the right person to lead Trellis into this exciting future.”

“Scott’s deep experience within our space will be a great asset and source of leadership for the Trellis team,” said Johnson. “His key role in the growth and diversification of MOHELA is remarkable and aligns perfectly with the Board’s vision for Trellis.”

Most recently, Giles served for 11 years as Chief Financial Officer for the Higher Education Loan Authority of Missouri (MOHELA), where he was instrumental in the nonprofit’s post FFELP diversification and growth from $6B to currently servicing more than $45B in loans for the federal government and other clients.

Giles has also served industry organizations in various capacities including Mapping Your Future (past Chair), the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHER) (past Board Member), the AT Still University Investment Advisory Committee (past Member), and the President’s Council and Board Member – Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

“I am extremely humbled and honored by the Trellis Board’s decision to entrust me with this amazing opportunity,” said Giles. “I have watched and admired Trellis Company and its mission for nearly 17 years and I am very excited to now work directly with its most important asset, the people of Trellis.”

Prior to being named CFO of MOHELA, Giles served as the Director of the Missouri Student Loan Group, where he was instrumental in improving the agency’s performance, productivity, and profitability. He also held positions with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the State of Missouri’s Division of Finance.

Giles holds a master’s in Public Administration from the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri and received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Southeast Missouri State University.
