Although the transition from high school to college is hard for many students, first-generation college students may encounter greater hurdles than their peers, especially amid COVID-19. Moreover, first-generation students of Color, immigrant students, queer students, and students from other marginalized backgrounds may be met with intersectional discrimination on their path to a degree. As a result, this webinar focuses on how to support first-generation college students through their educational journey in a complex, changing COVID-19 environment. The webinar will draw upon decades of research as well as share expert opinions from panelists with professional experience working with and for first-gen college students. Attendees will learn how to create first-gen programming, engage diverse campus stakeholders in first-gen support services, and address challenges facing first-gen college students during and after COVID-19.
